Let's build a web hosting business on a shoestring

Build/Design a website.

Now that you have worked on your hosting packages and also have a reseller web hosting account it is time to build a website. You should have something like Frontpage, Frontpage Express, or Macromedia Dreamweaver to modify and build websites. If you don't have these tools - ask friends or family. In most cases you can get the software for free from anyway. Make sure you verify the license agreement if needed.

The easiest way to get a website is via templates. Check out

http://www.aplustemplates.com/

These guys offer a low-cost way to get access to some of the finest website templates on the Internet. And the best thing is - access to all these templates is very affordable. For $29.95 per year you gain access to 150+ website templates. Most of the templates are easy to modify. All you need is some text.

If you do not want to build your own website you can ask somebody else to do it. Post your request here http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=7 and you will find somebody who does it for you. You will need to spend some money though.

What do you need to fill the pages with text? Look at other web hosting websites for ideas. You do not need much to start and getting ideas from other folks websites might be the best start. One of our reseller host recommendations (Httpme.com) even allows you to use their information from their website. Most reseller hosts will also you to use their ToS (terms of service) and their data center info. That's almost everything you need to get started. You can add tutorials, FAQs, and other things at a later time. Make sure you build a nice support section for your website. If your reseller host offers the "Fantastico" script for the "cpanel" control panel, you can install a fully automated helpdesk system as an example - for free (it comes with the package).

Do not be shocked when you see some high-tech websites of other webhosts. Many of these sites look a like and nothing is standing out. Sometimes the simple approach is the better one. The client will easily find everything and can easily find the information he needs. And you always work on your site while you go. The imortant thing is a clean and easy to navigate website to start with.
